CRN Announces Agenda for The Workshop: CRN’s Day of Science 2016

Washington, D.C., July 12, 2016—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, today announced the agenda for The Workshop: CRN’s Day of Science, taking place Oct. 26 at The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, in Dana Point, California. CRN’s Day of Science includes a full day of scientific sessions, preceding The Conference: CRN’s Annual Symposium for the Dietary Supplement Industry, Oct. 26–29, 2016.

“Year after year, we’ve created an agenda that draws industry executives with an interest in science to hear from leading experts who present fresh ideas on scientific topics that are of importance to the industry,” said Duffy MacKay, N.D., senior vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, CRN.

This year, The Workshop: CRN’s Day of Science will feature an array of scientific experts and presentations on topics ranging from important research to practical applications. One session will focus on the role of supplements in mental health care as part of an integrative health approach and be presented by Peter Bongiorno, N.D., LAc., author of “Put Anxiety Behind You,” “How Come They’re Happy and I’m Not” and  “Holistic Solutions for Anxiety & Depression.” Another session, headed by Robert Bonakdar, M.D., FAAFP, FACN, director of pain management at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, will advise on how scientific evidence is being used to integrate dietary supplements into conventional medical practice. David C. Nieman, Dr.PH, FACSM, director of human performance lab at Appalachian State University, North Carolina will address obesity, physical inactivity and the role of dietary supplements. In addition, Joanne L. Slavin, Ph.D., R.D., professor, department of food science and nutrition at the University of Minnesota will discuss the new Nutrition Facts Label and how it will impact research, labeling and claims for dietary fiber.
