Industry Experts Honored at CRN Annual Conference
—Majorie Fine, Peter Barton Hutt Receive Apple Awards,
Byron Johnson Receives Chairman's Award—

Washington, D.C., October 25, 2004 - Marjorie Fine of the Shaklee Corporation and Peter Barton Hutt of the law offices of Covington & Burling were today awarded "CRN (Steuben) Apples" and Byron Johnson, Access Business Group/Nutrilite received "The Chairman's Award" at the Council for Responsible Nutrition's (CRN) 2004 annual conference on dietary supplements at the Lansdowne Resort in Lansdowne, Va.

The "CRN Apple" award is presented annually by CRN to individuals who have demonstrated long-term commitment and have gone above and beyond their call of duty for CRN and the dietary supplement industry. The CRN "Chairman's Award" was given for the first time this year in recognition of dedicated service as Chairman

During the awards ceremony, CRN President Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., acknowledged the extensive regulatory and legal expertise shared by both apple award recipients and thanked them for actively using their knowledge and experience to ensure that the business environment does not unfairly hinder responsible manufacturing and marketing of dietary supplements.Ms. Fine, vice president and general counsel, Shaklee Corporation, is an active member of the CRN Board of Directors, Government Relations Committee, Strategic Task Force, and Regulatory Affairs Committee. She played a key role in legislative efforts in California the past two years, helping defeat proposed legislation that would have been unfairly burdensome to dietary supplement companies. Mr. Hutt, partner, Covington & Burling, serves as CRN's general counsel and is one of the nation's preeminent authorities on food and drug law. From 1971-1975, Mr. Hutt was the chief counsel for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Byron Johnson, industry relations director, Access Business Group/Nutrilite, was presented with The Chairman's Award in appreciation of his two-year term as Chairman of the CRN Board of Directors. In presenting the award, Chuck Brice, Kemin Foods and CRN Chair-Elect, thanked Mr. Johnson on behalf of the CRN membership for his two years of dedicated service to the association, noting that during his tenure as chairman the association flourished financially and enjoyed numerous visible successes.

"We are fortunate to have the expertise of these dedicated industry leaders to help guide us through regulatory and legislative challenges, which was particularly important this past year," states Dr. Dickinson. "Having Peter as our general counsel, always available to provide a reasoned perspective, and Marjorie as an active, engaged Board and committee member, helped our association immeasurably. Byron did a superb job of building consensus among our membership and worked energetically to promote CRN within the industry. We are grateful to all three of them and thank them for their tremendous efforts."
