Omega-3 Supplements

Many dietary supplements with uses tied to special needs are available. For example, omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oils, are believed to help reduce the risk of heart disease. People who don’t (or won’t) eat fish regularly may wish to supplement with omega-3 fatty acids. The links below provide more information on omega-3 supplements.

A voluntary monograph on long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA ratified in Oct. 2002, and updated in March 2006, was developed under the auspices of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) by its Omega-3 Working Group. The purpose of this monograph on analytical methods, quality standards and purity standards for long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA is to raise the bar for the quality of long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA products marketed in North America, in order to ensure greater consumer confidence in these beneficial nutrients. CRN’s Omega-3 Working Group, having accomplished its goal of developing and generating interest in this monograph, is not currently active. If you have questions about the status of this monograph, please contact the Global Organization for EPA and DEA Omega-3 (GOED).
