Omega-3 Supplements

Many dietary supplements with uses tied to special needs are available. For example, omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oils, are believed to help reduce the risk of heart disease. People who don’t (or won’t) eat fish regularly may wish to supplement with omega-3 fatty acids. The links below provide more information on omega-3 supplements.

A voluntary monograph on long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA ratified in Oct. 2002, and updated in March 2006, was developed under the auspices of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) by its Omega-3 Working Group. The purpose of this monograph on analytical methods, quality standards and purity standards for long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA is to raise the bar for the quality of long chain Omega-3 EPA and DHA products marketed in North America, in order to ensure greater consumer confidence in these beneficial nutrients.
