CRN and VIRGO Announce Webinar to Examine Developments in Dietary Supplement Advertising Claims


WASHINGTON, D.C., August 2, 2012—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and VIRGO today announced details for an industry-wide webinar titled—Dietary Supplement Advertising in a Fast Moving World—to be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. EDT. This is the third webinar in 2012 to be co-hosted by CRN and VIRGO. 

A panel of regulators and regulatory experts— Richard Clelandassistant director, division of advertising practices, Federal Trade Commission; Kathleen Dunnigansenior staff attorney, The National Advertising Division; Justin Prochnow, shareholder, Greenberg Traurig, LLP; and Mark Mansour, partner, Akin Gump—will share their hands-on expertise, focusing on the most recent developments surrounding dietary supplement marketing, advertising, and health claims, in the U.S. and Europe.          

Moderated by Rend Al-Mondhiry, regulatory counsel, CRN, this webinar will cover the following topics:

  • FTC’s new guidance for disclosures in the current online and mobile advertising environment;
  • The requirements for substantiating bioavailability claims, using case histories;
  • The growing trend of regulatory actions triggering class-action lawsuits against supplement companies;
  • The European Union’s recent health claims regulation and its potential global impact.
