New Chair Appointed to CRN’s Government Relations Committee


WASHINGTON, D.C., October 2, 2000—Patrick M. McLain, Esq. of SmithKline Beecham Corporation has been appointed chairman of the Council for Responsible Nutrition’s government relations committee. He will work with CRN members and staff supporting the legislative and government relation’s efforts of CRN and CRN member companies. Mr. McLain succeeds Evelyn Jarvis-Ferris of Shaklee Corporation.

"CRN is pleased and excited that Patrick McLain has agreed to serve as chairman of its government relations committee. His experience and knowledge of dietary supplements and government affairs will be of benefit to all CRN members," said John Cordaro, president and CEO of CRN.

Mr. McLain is SmithKline Beecham’s vice president of federal government affairs. Prior to joining SmithKline Beecham in 1997, he was senior vice president at Rowan and Blewitt, Inc., a Washington, DC—based consulting firm specializing in issue and crisis management. He specialized in regulatory and legislative issues relating to the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and assisted clients in a wide range of controversies on how to deal responsibly and effectively with public scrutiny.

Before his employment with Rowan and Blewitt, he served nearly 14 years as counsel to the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives. Mr. McLain’s experience with food and drug issues includes planning and conducting hearings about product safety and about the FDA approval process. Mr. McLain received his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Florida and his law degree from Stetson University.
