The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) is hosting a complimentary 90-minute webinar on nomenclature guidelines for dietary supplements on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm (Eastern Time).
Presented by Hellen Oketch, PhD, USP Senior Scientific Liaison, and Robin James Marles, Ph.D., Chair, USP Botanical Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines Expert Committee and Steven Dentali, Ph.D., Member, USP Botanical Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines Expert Committee. This webinar will provide an overview of the USP guideline used to govern the choice of titles for USP dietary supplement monographs.
“Created to guide USP expert committees in the choice of titles for dietary supplement monographs, this guideline actually presents a useful standard about what to call supplement ingredients generally,” said Dr. Dentali. “A lot of confusion about what supplements are can be cleared up by following this comprehensive strategy for clear consistent nomenclature of supplement materials, an important task if industry is to achieve the transparency talked about so much now,” he added.
The webinar-workshop explains in details how monograph titles for botanical and non-botanical dietary supplements will be formulated in a manner representing the articles in commerce and provides examples. The audience will understand not only how monograph titles for dietary supplements are crafted in a manner that fulfils regulatory labeling requirements but also the reasoning behind these titles.
The guideline was created by the USP Dietary Supplement and Herbal Medicines Nomenclature Joint Subcommittee and USP Staff. Information including how to register can be found at USP under “Webinars” at this link: http://education.usp.org/
