MORE FROM OUR FEED

Data from the 2023 CRN Consumer Survey on Dietary Supplements is now available. The survey found that 74% of American adults take dietary supplements. With thousands of additional data points, CRN’s survey is a leading source for data on the attitudes and behaviors of the dietary supplement consumer. Read more in our press release. What will 2023's data show us?

As the leading voice advocating on Capitol Hill for the responsible dietary supplement industry, CRN typically holds an annual “fly-in” for its member companies, bringing together industry executives to engage with Congressional offices about the benefits of dietary supplements, legislative developments and the importance of dietary supplement products to their constituents’ health and wellness, and to the economy. In 2020 we held a virtual “Supplement Advocacy Send-in” in response to COVID-19 limitations and followed up with targeted individual office outreach in 2021 and 2022. See how our 2023 day unfolded.

CRN’s “Label Wise” campaign began as a place to explain what consumers can expect to see as manufacturers came into compliance with FDA-mandated “Supplement Facts” label changes in 2020 and 2021. The award-winning campaign encourages overall label literacy and highlights the fact that the dietary supplement industry is regulated and has been updated to include information about nutrient gaps and how dietary supplements can help fill them. CRN leads the conversation on key industry issues, including cannabidiol—CBD—as a dietary supplement. Read articles by our staff here.

Did you know—Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) are potentially dangerous and illegal for use in performance–enhancing products. SARMs have been found in adulterated products, but are unapproved drugs, NOT dietary supplements. Learn more about how #SARMsCanHarm.

The Supplement OWL® (Online Wellness Library)—the #dietarysupplement product registry—is an industry-wide, self-regulatory initiative that’s helping increase transparency and accountability in the marketplace by providing a more complete picture of the marketplace for regulators, retailers and industry, and consumers. According to an independent economic impact report funded by CRN and conducted by John Dunham and Associates, the dietary supplement industry is a major economic engine contributing $122 billion to the U.S. economy, generating $5.75 billion in state and local taxes, and employing more than 750,000 Americans. CRN is updating the data in 2023.

Use of specific dietary supplements in targeted populations not only provides health benefits, but, according to an economic report, also offers significant savings for health care costs. The 2022 "Supplements to Savings" report provides expanded data on how investing in wellness through supplementation can save billions in health care costs and improve quality of life.
