Congressman Recognizes the 100th Anniversary of the Vitamin— Congressional Remarks Mark the Milestone

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 26, 2012—Honoring the 100th anniversary of the vitamin, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) last week entered into the U.S. House of Representatives’Congressional Record remarks recognizing this special milestone.  In 1912, Polish-American scientist Casimir Funk, considered the “father of vitamin therapy,” first used the term “vitamin” to describe a group of bioactive substances that are vital to human health.

In his statement, Rep. Pallone, who is co-chair of the Dietary Supplement Caucus and a dietary supplement industry champion in the House of Representatives, noted “Because of [Casimir Funk’s] work, we know that vitamins are essential for good health through every stage of [the] human life cycle and that our bodies require vitamins to grow, to function, to stay healthy and to prevent the onset of disease.”

Four of the leading trade associations representing the dietary supplement industry—the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the Natural Products Association (NPA), and the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA)—join Rep. Pallone in honoring the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the vitamin, and thank Rep. Pallone for his support.
