The CRN Foundation has updated its Vitamin D & Me! website to include important information about the synergistic relationship between vitamin D and vitamin K2—two nutrients that work together to support bone and cardiovascular health. The update to the Learn More section of the website addresses a knowledge gap among the public and provides new scientific context for supplement use.
Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, a critical function for maintaining bone strength and overall health. However, calcium must be properly utilized once absorbed, and this is where vitamin K2 plays an important role. Vitamin K2 activates proteins that help both direct calcium to bone and decrease its accumulation in blood vessels.
A recent survey conducted by the CRN Foundation shows that vitamin D is nearly nine times more commonly used than vitamin K2 among respondents—1,041 reported using vitamin D in the past year, while only 118 reported using vitamin K2. This usage disparity reflects a significant awareness gap.
The Vitamin D & Me! website, first launched in 2021 to explore the role of vitamin D in immune health, now features additional resources to help individuals understand vitamin D’s broader health implications and nutrient interactions.
Visitors to the site can find:
- Educational content on vitamin D’s role in immune function, bone health, muscle health, pregnancy, and other health topics.
- Expert interviews with leading scientists and clinicians discussing research related to vitamin D.
- Summary information on vitamin D dosing, including common intake levels and guidelines.
- Guidance on vitamin D blood levels, including target ranges from major health organizations.
“Our goal with these updates is to strengthen the understanding of vitamin D among clinicians and the general public,” said Luke Huber, ND, MBA, Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN). “Vitamin D & Me! now explains how vitamin K2 works in synergy with vitamin D to support bone and cardiovascular health.”
