Washington, D.C., July 14, 2020—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, is honored to announce that the association’s Label Wise consumer education campaign is the recipient of the 2020 NutraIngredients Editors Award for Industry Initiative of the Year. The Editors Award celebrates significant initiatives to improve quality, transparency, consumer confidence and trust in the dietary supplements industry.
“CRN congratulates all of the 2020 award finalists and thanks NutraIngredients USA for hosting a virtual awards ceremony to recognize the great work of innovative companies in the dietary supplement industry,” said Nancy Weindruch, vice president, communications, CRN. “We are privileged to have Label Wise awarded with Industry Initiative of the Year and appreciate the editors’ recognition of the importance of educating consumers about dietary supplement labels.”
CRN first launched Label Wise in early April 2019 as an education campaign to inform consumers of dietary supplement label changes, to encourage overall label literary and to demonstrate that the industry is well-regulated. The campaign’s website, www.BeLabelWise.org, features customizable content for a variety of platforms, including a two-minute explainer video designed in partnership with Signal Group, a consumer fact sheet, an infographic, an interactive “how-to” for reading a Supplement Facts label and other educational tools and resources.
“The Industry Initiative of the Year is the ideal award for Label Wise,” said Weindruch. “Without the support of the industry and other key stakeholders, we wouldn’t have been able to make as great an impact. This humbling recognition from NutraIngredients USA shows how responsible industry can easily align and take action when it comes to improving consumer confidence and trust, and ensuring the safe use of its products.”
